People Change:

According to WHO there were 1.3 million new HIV cases in 2024, malaria is resurging, vaccination rates are slipping in the Americas, and 42.8 million children worldwide are suffering from severe malnutrition. 

Coartem Baby has been approved by Swissmedic as the first malaria medicine for newborns and young infants. 

According to the German Statistical Office 2025 German births were the lowest since records began in 1946 and there were 352,000 more deaths than births.

The UK statistics agency forecast that between 2024 and 2034 there will be 450,000 more deaths than births; the number of pensioners will increase by 14.6% to 14.2 million, 20% of the population; and the number of people aged 85+ will double to 3.6 million.

The world is struggling to cope with outbreaks involving the deadly Ebola and Hanta viruses. 

Climate Change and the Environment:

The UN voted by 141-8 (Belarus, Iran, Israel, Liberia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, USA and Yemen) to adopt a resolution that countries have a legal obligation to address climate change.

According to Copernicus and the World Meteorological Organization, Europe has warmed twice as fast as the global average.

Parts of Western Europe have recorded record maximum May temperatures.

To date more wildfires have burned in the USA in 2026 than any year in the past decade with 18 uncontained large fires currently burning nationwide. The National Drought Mitigation Center estimated 60% of the country was drought stricken in early May.

ExxonMobil is building a 900 mile pipeline to collect carbon dioxide from customers and store it underground in Louisiana.

Low Cost Renewable Energy:

According to Ember, during April 2026 global solar and wind for the first time produced more electricity than gas.

China’s Sun Chasing project aims to collect energy in space and beam it to earth.

According to the International Energy Agency, global methane leaks and unnecessary flaring are equivalent to more than double the volume of gas not transported because of the Gulf of Hormuz closure.

According to the Energy Institute global liquid biofuel production has grown sevenfold in the last twenty years.

California’s Nexus Project has demonstrated solar panels installed over irrigation canals can significantly reduce evaporation and cut algae growth by 85%.

Autonomous Electric Vehicles:

According to the International Energy Agency, Electric vehicles accounted for 25% of 2025 car sales with rate of growth increasing in 2026 with ICE sales having peaked in 2017.

CATL and HyperStrong signed an agreement for the production of 60 GWh of sodium ion batteries.

In December 2025 more electric trucks were sold in China than diesel powered; China now has half a million electric heavy duty trucks.

Fortesque has converted a 240 tonne truck to electric and is building its own fast charger.

BYD’s new flash charging enables an EV to charge in 5 minutes.

Joby Aviation successfully flew an air taxi from JFK Airport to Manhattan.

Cryptocurrency companies are concerned that powerful quantum computers could hack through their security.
