We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of David Suratgar, a long-standing advisor and cherished friend of Milltrust International Group. David served as Chairman of Milltrust’s Emerging Markets Managed Accounts, one of our core businesses, from 2010 to 2020, providing invaluable leadership and strategic guidance throughout his tenure. Following this, he continued to offer his wisdom as a member of the Milltrust International Advisory Council. His steady presence and contributions from the inception of our firm have been instrumental in shaping our business, and his passing marks the loss of an exceptional figure whose influence will be deeply missed.

David’s career was distinguished by a wealth of accomplishments. He was Chairman of BMCE Bank International plc, a member of the Advisory Board of Taylor-DeJongh Inc., and a former Vice-Chairman of Deutsche Morgan Grenfell. Additionally, he held key legal roles at the World Bank, where he acted as a senior attorney and special legal advisor to the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, and the Bank of England.

David’s academic background was equally impressive. He held an MA in Law from Oxford University, a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University, and a Certificate in International and Comparative Law from The Hague Academy of International Law. His intellectual rigour and practical insight earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and institutions worldwide.

David was an avid historian, traveller, intellectual and supporter of the arts. He was a founding director of the Garsington Opera, and a trustee of Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs).

His involvement with Milltrust International Group was part of a longstanding professional relationship, as David had also served on the board of Fortune Group, a firm founded by Simon Hopkinsprior to establishing Milltrust. His strategic vision and sound counsel were invaluable in helping guide both firms to success.

David Suratgar’s legacy is one of excellence, mentorship, and dedication. His impact on those who worked with him was profound, and his loss is deeply felt by the entire Milltrust family. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this time.
