One Health portfolio company Cody Genetics is revolutionising the livestock breeding industry with its innovative gene-editing technology. Founded in 2021 by Yaniv Dolev, Cody Genetics focuses on using CRISPR-Cas9 technology to create bulls and boars that produce sexed semen, allowing farmers to breed the animals they need while significantly reducing the need for gender culling. This approach improves animal welfare by eliminating the culling of male chicks and swine castration and also enhances the efficiency of livestock production. The offspring from these genetically edited breeders do not carry any foreign DNA, ensuring compliance with global regulations.
Cody Genetics has partnered with leading institutions such as Tel Aviv University and Roslin Technologies to further develop this promising technology. The company aims to build a global network of veterinary embryology laboratories, supplying genetic and genomic support to animal breeding companies. By increasing breeding efficiencies and reducing inhumane practices, Cody Genetics is positioned to transform livestock farming into a more sustainable and profitable industry.
